Manage your subscription

The "Join the List" page was made as brief as possible so that joining the Breast-Cancer List would be easy. This page provides the same capability, with expanded information that you may need when using the subscription options. You can choose to receive individual messages (Regular mail) or one long composite document (Digest). "No mail" should be chosen when you are temporarily away. You will find additional information on subscription options below.

Subscription options:

Digest Resume regular mail (non-digest)
No mail Resume mail delivery

A few moments after you click on the "Submit" button, the server will respond. To confirm your identity and prevent third parties from changing your list options against your will, an e-mail message will be sent to the address you specify in the form. Simply wait for this message to arrive, then follow the instructions to confirm the operation.

More on Subscription Options

Digest format:  By selecting "Digest," you can change the way you receive postings. Instead of receiving individual, full-header messages as they are sent to the List by subscribers, you can receive a single (rather large) daily collection or "digest" of messages with condensed headers. This is particularly useful if you have limited mailbox space, pay per message received, or simply like to download mailings and search according to your particular interests.

To revert to default settings (receiving individual messages), submit a new request on this page with "Resume regular mail" selected.

No mail: If you wish to temporarily halt the receipt of Breast Cancer postings but remain subscribed, you can do so on this page by selecting "No mail."

To begin receiving mail again, submit a new request on this page with "Resume mail delivery" selected. (Note: If you remain "No mail" for 60 days or more, Listserv will ask you to renew your subscription.)

A Word of Caution

People talk about very private things on this list. Please respect their privacy by not forwarding their messages to anyone outside the list without the author's permission. For your own protection, you should take care in what you write to the list. While the list is open only to subscribers, anyone can subscribe, and the archive is openly accessable. Additional precautions are given on the List Owner's Message page.

Important note to AOL members

If you are ever in a situation where you cannot retrieve and read your Breast Cancer List mail for five or six days (perhaps while on vacation or other travel), you might get back to find yourself UNSUBSCRIBED from the List. Here's why: This list can generate as many as 150 messages a day (although usually it's less), and if your AOL mailbox accumulates 550 unread messages, it will reject further incoming mail with the notation "Mailbox Full."

The Listserv computer is set up so that any subscriber whose account returns a "Mailbox Full" message for three consecutive days will automatically be dropped from the List. So, you need to plan ahead when you know you are going to be unable to attend to your mail for several days. That is the time to change your subscription temporarily to "Digest" or "No mail."

Additional Information

Please be aware that Listserv is a computer program that is exacting in its requirements. Should you or your Internet service provider change your e-mail address in any way, Listserv may fail to recognize your request, resulting in the need for human intervention. Though it may be of little consolation, it does indicate that we humans are still needed.

The subscription operations that have been automated here are the only ones that most people will ever need. Of course, these and many other tasks can be carried out by sending individual e-mail messages from your computer to the Listserv program on the server in Newfoundland. You can read about these more advanced operations on the List Owner's Message page. For more detailed instructions, see e-Mailing Listserv.

When All Else Fails

If you can't get your subscription to behave the way you want--or if you have any further questions about the Breast Cancer List, write to the list owner, Jon Church, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland, at: jchurch@mun.ca .
